Well the thing about french is, even the basics are semi-complicated because the language itself is a complicated one. I'm nearly fully trilingual and french is easily the hardest language I have learned. It takes a while to learn the flow and not to mention in conversations its almost impossible to comprehend due to slangs and the speed at which it is spoken (its the fastest spoken language in the world). On the topic of slang, the slang from either Quebec or France is very different and tends to outdate the more formal language. So what I'm trying to say is the basics of french aren't really basics because you'll often find yourself trying to say something that can be easily said in another way or requires one of its sixteen different verb tenses which all have very specific times when they're supposed to be used. You might want to start off by reading some french and then maybe using a translator or get a personal tutor. Because writing the language is way different from speaking it.
